Olympics Ireland - A place for everyone
2007
Special Olympics World Summer Games will take place in Shanghai
from
October 2nd to October 11th 2007.
TEAM
Ireland, comprising 142 Irish athletes and 55 coaches will
represent Ireland
in
11 different supports. In addition 200 volunteers (TEAM2007)
will travel to support
the athletes, not to mention the various family members
who will also travel. All told
its anticipated that 1000 people will travel from Ireland
to Shanghai specifically for
the Special Olympics World Summer Games.
This
represents one the largest ever organised delegation from
Ireland to China
and as such
the Ireland China Association is delighted to support Special
Olympics Ireland in taking the feeling shared in 2003 in Ireland
to China and to support all the Irish
athletes, volunteers and family members attending the
games.
Specifically
the Ireland China Association has undertaken to:-
•
Provide language cards with key phrases and information in
handy
wallet
sized format
• Present introduction to Shanghai at nationwide
briefing sessions for athletes, volunteers
and family members
• Promote the significance of the occasion to members.
Board
members Deirdre Walsh (ChinaGreen) and Victor Huang (China
Opportunities) are co-ordinating the support on behalf of
the Ireland China Association.
There
are many areas that Irish based companies can give invaluable
assistance to the Irish travelling to the games and there
are opportunities for these companies to partner with Special
Olympics as well as providing direct financial support.
