Relations between China and Ireland show that distance and differences in size are no barriers to business development between the two countries. In the past decade, there has been a significant growth in the number of Irish companies that are visiting, doing business and have representation in China. Recent figures show the number of Irish companies doing business in China has increased from 10 in 1999 to nearly 250 in 2005 and 400 by 2010.
The Ireland China Association, which was established in November 2000 to promote greater economic ties between Ireland and China as well as increasing cultural links between the two countries, celebrates its tenth anniversary. To commemorate this significant landmark a special business breakfast has been organized to look back at the last 10 years and identify where the opportunities for Irish companies lie moving toward 2020.
The event will deal with most aspects of doing business in China covering topics such as the role of sourcing in China – through purchasing, joint venture or investment, as well as Irish companies using China as a regional base for manufacturing or service provision. The conference is designed to assist a wide variety of companies either already doing business with China and looking for the competitive edge or those who have an interest in understanding how their company might tap into the most powerful economy in the world.
